Social proposal submission form.
We invite community empowerment groups to host FAccT-endorsed in-person or virtual Socials at FAccT 2025! These Socials offer welcoming spaces for researchers to connect around shared interests—whether rooted in research topics or personal identities—in a more informal and relaxed setting. Socials can take place during breaks in the main program or outside of official hours (e.g., over coffee, meals, or even walks). Socials should be inclusive and open to the whole community—either with no size limit, or with open sign-up administered by the Social Chairs if limits are needed due to space or other constraints.
Accepted Socials will be featured on the FAccT website and promoted through our social media channels for increased visibility. Social Chairs will provide assistance with coordination, translation, suggested venues, and other logistics to support your event.
Please Note: According to FAccT's bylaws, co-located events (those taking place in Athens) must be officially endorsed by FAccT. Please reach out if you have any questions.
At conferences, social interactions often emerge naturally through shared research interests or mutual identities. These moments can be powerful spaces for community empowerment, idea exchange, potential research collaboration, and building long term friendships among researchers.
However, not everyone may have access to existing social groups, and those with common interests or backgrounds may find it difficult to connect without designated spaces.
The Call for Socials aims to make these spaces more visible, accessible, and inclusive—for both in-person and virtual attendees. We're here to help you create and share opportunities for connection throughout FAccT 2025.
FAccT Socials are, simply put, social gatherings! These can include but aren't limited to in-person or virtual coffee meetups, lunch or dinner gatherings, happy hours, or walks and hikes.
Think of them like the informal social hours you might have in your organization. They're not meant to be formal presentations, workshops, or panels (those belong in our Tutorials or CRAFT tracks). Instead, Socials offer casual and welcoming spaces focused on community, conversation, and connection.
As long as you have a clear topic or goal for community-building, we'd love to support you in hosting a Social and help you spread the word.
