Tutorial Chairs

Tutorial Chairs are responsible for every aspect of the tutorials program. Tutorials are intended to be explicitly didactic, providing introductions to disciplinary and other perspectives with which some members of our interdisciplinary community might be unfamiliar. Tutorials Chairs issue a call for tutorials, select tutorials, schedule them in the program, and serve as the point of contact for presenters of those tutorials.

CRAFT Chairs

CRAFT Chairs are responsible for every aspect of the CRAFT program. CRAFT stands for ‘Critiquing and Rethinking Accountability, Fairness and Transparency’. It provides a counterpoint to the research program. In recent years this has entailed centering perspectives of communities directly affected by algorithmic systems, as well as practitioners, activists and policy-makers aiming to move beyond academic research to realizing substantive societal impact. CRAFT sessions have also historically often been more interactive than other sessions in the conference. CRAFT will continue to evolve.

Doctoral Colloquium Chairs (DC)

Doctoral Colloquium Chairs are responsible for organizing the doctoral colloquium to provide feedback, mentoring and engagement opportunities for doctoral students doing research on fairness, accountability and transparency (or related topics) in relation to socio-technical systems. FAccT does not yet have a settled format for the DC.

Volunteer Chairs

Volunteer Chairs are responsible for recruiting, scheduling and managing student volunteers in the lead up to and during the conference. Volunteer Chairs serve a one year term.

Virtual Chairs

Virtual Chairs work with the Organizing Committee to determine which parts of the conference will be virtual, hybrid, or in-person and coordinate the relevant resources to achieve this.

Web Chairs

The Web Chairs are responsible for updating the conference website with content provided by the wider committee. This includes publishing key information about the conference, listing the calls for papers and session proposals, posting acceptances, and publishing the conference schedule.

Accessibility Chairs

The Accessibility Chairs work with the wider committee to make the conference accessible and inclusive for all attendees. This includes the conference venue and digital platforms and resources. The Chairs coordinate with attendees on an individual basis regarding their accessibility needs.

Financial Support Chairs

Financial Chairs oversee the financial support process from start to finish, in coordination with DEI and General Chairs. The Chairs receive submissions for financial support, score and prioritize the submissions, and allocate support with funding caps determined for the location of the conference.

Sponsorship Chairs

Sponsorship Chairs lead fundraising activities for the conference, including developing promotional materials, maintaining relationships with existing or new sponsors, and coordinating as needed with other members of the Organizing Committee.

Publicity Chairs

Publicity Chairs devise strategies to improve the reach of the conference and manage social media and other forms of outreach, posting announcements in various channels in the lead up to, and during the conference. The Chairs gather content from the wider committee to be shared to the FAccT network and general public.

Scheduling Chairs

Scheduling Chairs are responsible for establishing the schedule and updating it according to specifications provided by the GCs, PCs and wider committee. The Chairs establish a template with the start and end times, sessions, breaks and parallel tracks. They assist with populating the accepted papers, CRAFTS, and Tutorials, and help to address scheduling requests and conflicts.

Social Chairs

Social Chairs are appointed to oversee the social events and activities to take place during the conference. This may include releasing a call for applications to hold FAccT-endorsed social events.

Registration Chairs

Registration Chairs are responsible for coordinating the registration process. The Chairs work in tandem with the Project Officer to oversee the registration system. During the conference, Registration Chairs oversee on-site registration activities, including check-in procedures

Local Information Chairs

Local Information Chairs are responsible for creating and distributing accessible materials about the conference venue and host city that enables attendees to make the most of their participation.
